Comedian Tom Green is poised to film a movie about snowboarding at Big White.
A source in Hollywood says Green, the gross-out star of Bob the Butler and Freddy Got Fingered, will star in a comedy called Shred at the Okanagan ski resort. The source said filming will take place before the snow melts.
Okanagan film commissioner Sara Shaak wouldn’t confirm the project is a done deal, but said she’s hopeful.
“There’s been scouting, and it looks promising,” she said Monday. “We hope to know more in the next few days, whether it’s confirmed for our region. If it is, it would be exciting.”
Assuming a deal is arranged, filming would last several weeks. Local technicians and actors would be hired.
“As part of the scouting process, we provide information on local goods and services and local talent available,” Shaak said. “Our goal as a film commission is to get as many local people involved as possible.”
Green, 35, raised in Ottawa, is an actor, writer and director. The Tom Green Show hit the big time when MTV began airing it in the U.S. in 1999. Fans were attracted to his shocking style of comedy with gags such as delivering animal parts to his parents’ house.
He and actress Drew Barrymore had a short-lived marriage in 2001. Soon after, he co-wrote, directed and starred in Freddy Got Fingered. He intended it to be the most disgusting film possible, but critics blasted it for its crudity, and it soon died at the box office.
The Okanagan film commission is gearing up for what could be its most lucrative year yet. The reality TV series X-Weighted, a mainstay on the Life Network, is confirmed this year, and at least four feature films plan to scout in the Valley this year, Shaak said.
“That doesn’t mean we’ll get them all, but that level of activity is unprecedented for us.”
