Movie stars are shredding the slopes at Silver Star

By Richard Rolke - Morning Star Staff

Shooting of Shred and Shred II began filming at Big White Monday, and it
shifts to the Star from March 12th to 17th.

"They're going to film both movies at the same time," said Anne Haight,
with Silver Star's marketing department.

The snowboarding movies feature Tom Green, who starred in Road Trip and
Freddy Got Fingered, and Dave Englund who appeared in the MTV series
Jackass and Jackass:  The Movie.

Also in it is Olympic Gold Medalist in Snowboarding, Ross Rebagliati.

Shred tells the story of two washed up pro snowboarders from the 1990's
who attempt to cash in on the growth of the sport by starting their own
snowboard camp.

Shred II finds the young riders from the first film living the life of
rock stars, with photo shoots, video stardom and parties threatening the
will of the team to stay together and maintain their commitment to the
true essence of the sport.

The production company spent some time checking out Silver Star before
making a decision to come here.  "We wanted to be where the
pro-shredders are and the beauty of the Okanagan is something we wanted
to capture," said Chris Bromley, unit publicist.

"Additionally, the management and staff of the resorts, as well as the
Okanagan Film Commission have been more than accommodating to us which
truly has helped facilitate the process of getting the films made."

While this is a busy time of the ski season for the Star, Bromley is
confident the film crew will provide a few memorable experiences for the
skiers.  "While we're filming, we encourage people to hang around and
they may be in the background in one of the movies," he said.

Haight believes there is a lot of potential for the movies for both
Silver Star and the North Okanagan.  "We're hoping to get some
visibility in the films.  It's a great opportunity for us," she said.

On March 15th, the resort will hold its Drop In Rail Jam Series, and the
event will be filmed for the production.
